The National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI), in Drumcondra, Dublin, is a charitable organisation which provides support and services to people experiencing sight loss in Ireland Established in 1931 to promote the full independence of people who are blind or vision impaired the NCBI now employs over 150 staff and many volunteers, providing services to more than 14,0000 people.〔http://www.ncbi.ie/about-ncbi/who-we-are-and-what-we-do〕 Approximately 18 percent of people who use NCBI services are entirely blind, while 82 percent have varying degrees of usable vision.
